Pharos of Itaca

I'm not a visual art major. I mean, technically? Yes. But art has always come somehow difficult to me.
I can't always appreciate paintings like people do. Sometimes I stare at Reinassance and just go "Uh, this must have taken a lot of time to those dudes".
There are some exception to this. Sometimes those dudes hit my little eyes just right and I can appreciate. Like I saw those guys' art and go "uh, might actually be something in here".
One of these "guys" is Magritte.

René François Ghislain Magritte was a Belgian surrealist artist known for his depictions of familiar objects in unfamiliar, unexpected contexts, which often provoked questions about the nature and boundaries of reality and representation. I have a thing for Belgians in visual arts, honestly. Asterix, Tintin, this motherfucking's Pipe.

Now, I love meta stuff. Truly. I'm not really into this new Tiktok thing about how some people think about their own thinking and some don't. That sounds like bullishit in a self-help, fraud way. Despite that, thinking about thinking is cool. And thinking about thinking art is super duper cool.

Do I love the pipe? Eh, I like the idea and the discourses that are born from it, surely. What do I love? This.

This has been in my house since before I was born. My parents bought a copy of it and hung it in the hallway. I was fascinated by it since I was little. How one could not? This shit is fire!!!

Picture a little kid glaring up the wall and seeing this picture, at a age when they can barely distinguish between a drawing and a photograph. And this thing, with its clear, bright sky full of cloud and the deepest darkness around the lamp-post...
